Whether its startup or idea validation or existing company planning to expand all need a business plan, more than the earlier so called napkin business plan and speed dating format with investors have all faded out as lot of startups which got funded based on fancy thought process which were shown in to investors have given way to new format which is based on financial models.

The business plan has moved to Financial plan where in actual numbers play a role rather than a thought process being backed up with good looking presentations.

So next questions comes is what does a business plan / financial plan writer do, is he the magic guy who gives a excel file and you are assured of funding and starting the implementation.

No it does not work like that, the writer is just a human being who is giving the numbers to thought process of startups. His job is to formulate a plan with a proper flow and having covered all the parameters which investors look like.

The writer is not a magician to get data like for e.g I want to know how many players are there in on line grocery store startups and how much revenue are they generating.

Getting this detail is not possible as no company shares there revenues openly, also the market details like, what the total market for two wheeler bikes modification or what’s total market for export of bikes parts for modifications.

Arguing with writers when you cant get me the data then what is the purpose of writing it, the answer is simple the writer job is to give you clarity on what investment is required and structuring the plan to give you scenarios of financial viability to make you understand is the idea worth enough of your investment and time.
